Structure + Content

Portrait

Competent and transparent: In our Controlling & Consulting EMBA, you will learn how to budget and structure information for all management levels. You will enhance your knowledge in alternative planning methods, performance measurement systems and organizational forms. At the end of this EMBA, you will be an expert in cost accounting, reporting and financial reporting.  

Goals & Competencies

You enhance your specialist skills and finance and controlling’s interaction with the management of a company. 

The course is a part-time modular programme, allowing you to fit your study around your work responsibilities. This EMBA programme is completed with four CAS and a master's thesis. 

The core focus of the program is on business management. One CAS in Business Administration and one in Leadership are mandatory: 

  • CAS Advanced Business Administration  

  • CAS Leadership or CAS Advanced Leadership  

If you have no previous business management training, the CAS Business Administration for Specialists and Managers is recommended. If you have prior training in leadership, we recommend the CAS Advanced Leadership. 

Furthermore, two CAS of the advanced study programmes are obligatory: 

  • CAS Accounting & Finance  

  • CAS Controlling & Consulting 

You are free to decide on the order of your CAS. Thus, we recommend completing the advanced CAS before the core studies, as they are not offered every semester.  

Master Thesis

The EMBA program concludes with a master's thesis.

Eligibility & Entry

Do you work in a leading position in the financial sector? Are you a controlling specialist with several years of professional experience, who aims for a comprehensive financial responsibility? If you have a federal diploma in accounting and controlling or in auditing, a shortened one-year long course is possible.

University degree

You will be admitted to the programme with a degree from a university, university of applied sciences, university of teacher education, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or an equivalent foreign university and at least two years of professional experience.

Higher vocational training

If you have a qualification from a higher vocational education institution (Diploma Höhere Fachschule HF, Federal Diploma, Federal Certificate of Proficiency) and several years of professional experience, you will also be admitted to the programme. However, you will be required to attend our Introduction to Academic Study before starting the CAS. Completion of this module is a prerequisite for admission to the CAS.

Exceptions

In exceptional circumstances applicants may still  be admitted. The head of the degree programme will make a decision based upon your application and extenuating circumstances. Please contact us. If you are admitted, you will in any case attend the course «Introduction to Academic Writing» (in German) before the first CAS.

There are specific admission requirements for the individual CAS.

Professional requirements

Several years of work experience in a related field is required. Students who do not have any previous business management training can acquire this experience by attending the CAS Business Administration for Specialists and Managers in advance. Admission may be possible in exceptional circumstances. Decisions regarding exceptions are made by the CAS management team.

A one-year variation of the EMBA is offered in Zurich for applicants certified as a Chartered Expert in Financial and Managerial Accounting or a Charted Expert in Financial Auditing

Prior knowledge & skills

Several years of professional experience in Accounting & Controlling is needed.

Exceptions

The head of the programme decides according to your application - "sur dossier" - after you have applied.

Application + Practicalities

The course Introduction to Scientific Study is compulsory for all students without a university degree. It provides the students with methodological skills for the successful CAS degree.

The maximum duration for completion is 8 years. Admission for the program is possible according to the starting dates of the individual CAS. The application deadlines are found in the descriptions for the specific CAS.

Information about the EMBA

Admission for the program is possible according to the starting dates of the individual CAS programs 

CHF 34,000  

All tuition fees for the individual CAS courses total CHF 34,000. Additional costs for the master’s thesis module (CHF 2,500) are not applicable if all ECTS credits have been earned at the BFH or within the framework of our cooperative study programs.  

All compulsory literature, course materials and examinations are included in the costs. 

The continuing education regulations of the Bern University of Applied Sciences and the implementation regulations for the continuing education regulations apply. The right to make changes is reserved. In case of doubt, the wording of the legal provisions and regulations shall prevail.
