We would like to congratulate Dr. Friederike J.S. Thilo for the awarded title of philosophical doctor! She successfully defended her PhD thesis at the University of Maastricht on the 17th of January 2020. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jos Schools, Associate Prof. Ruud Halfens and Prof. Dr. Sabine Hahn, Dr. Thilo investigated the topic, «Ageing in place safely - Lessons learnt from a multi-perspective immersion into the use and non-use of Personal Safety Alerting Devices». Over the course of the past five years, Dr. Thilo has intensively studied the decision-making process of elderly people living at home, concerning the use and non-use of fall sensors. She has examined this process from the perspectives of elderly people, their relatives, nursing staff and general practitioners. Resulting from this work, she has developed important findings for improving the care for elderly people living at home and for the use of fall sensors. Her research has resulted in five international publications. Dr. Thilo works at the Department of Nursing at the unit of Applied Research and Development and is leading the innovation field of Technology and Health.
