Key points at a glance

  • Holders of the HTS Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Wood Engineering can now benefit from a simplified transition into the Bachelor of Science in Wood Technology programme at BFH.
  • A total of 70 ECTS are awarded as a block credit transfer, significantly reducing the overall study workload.
  • In other Bachelor’s degree programmes at BFH, transfers from higher technical schools (HTS) to a University of Applied Sciences, as well as the individual recognition of previously acquired competencies, are also possible.

With the 70 ECTS credit transfer, the Bachelor of Science in Wood Technology becomes a significantly more attractive and efficient study option. The credit transfer enables holders of an Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Wood Engineering to build on their practice-oriented training by developing scientific, methodological and strategic competencies. This prepares them for demanding specialist, project management and leadership roles as engineers.

While studies at the HTS prepare students for operational technical and managerial responsibilities, the bachelor of Science degree provides a broader understanding of the wood industry as a whole and strengthens competencies in engineering, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration in particular. The degree qualifies graduates for demanding engineering roles in timber construction and the wood economy, as well as for the management of complex projects. Graduates benefit from additional career opportunities in specialist, project and leadership positions within businesses operating regionally, nationally and internationally.

Does this apply to other degree programmes at BFH?

BFH is committed to ensuring a high degree of permeability between higher technical schools (HTS) and universities of applied sciences. In principle, similar transfer options are also available in other bachelor’s degree programmes at BFH, such as the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, the Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture or the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Admission and the recognition of previously acquired competencies are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the respective degree programme. The scope and structure of any credit transfer depend on the student’s competencies and the requirements of the programme.
