Entrepreneurship at BFH Business School

Bern University of Applied Sciences promotes entrepreneurial thinking and action. We support students, employees, and partners in using their creativity and entrepreneurial potential to help solve societal challenges.

By «entrepreneurial thinking and action» – or «entrepreneurship» – we do not mean only starting innovative start-ups. Rather, it includes any form of independent and proactive action aimed at creating something new and bringing about positive change.

To promote entrepreneurship, we offer our students, staff, and partners a wide range of opportunities.

Start your own business or intrapreneurship project as part of our Master’s programme in Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation. In doing so, further develop your entrepreneurial skills.

Do you need flexibility to combine your work or the development of your business idea with your studies? No problem: the hybrid and flexible nature of the Master’s programme allows you to do just that

Do you have an innovative business idea and intend to set up a knowledge- or technology-oriented company? In this module offered by Innosuisse, you will hone your entrepreneurial thinking and acting and prepare yourself for setting up and running a business.

During the 12-week course, you will acquire theoretical and practical skills, such as pitching, building your team, drawing up a financial plan, understanding and convincing your customers, working with the Business Model Canvas, and much more. You will also meet many like-minded people and become part of the Bernese start-up ecosystem.

This module is open to all BFH students as part of «BFH Diagonal». Furthermore, students from other universities, former students and all BFH staff are also welcome to participate.

We support start-ups and companies in the development of new products, services, or processes. As BFH Business School, we focus on aspects such as acceptance, usability, and business models.

Key topics include New Work, positive psychology and mindfulness.

The innovation cheque enables testing of novel ideas. Start-ups can apply for the innovation cheque, worth up to CHF 15,000, from Innosuisse, Switzerland’s innovation agency. The credit can be used to cover the costs of a joint project with us. Possible projects include concept studies or analyses of market potential.

What we offer students

Students can acquire entrepreneurial competences at various levels, from basic knowledge to the implementation of their own business idea.

  1. Raising awareness: through targeted learning content in Bachelor’s, Master’s and continuing education modules, we aim to instil a basic entrepreneurial mindset in our students and make them aware of the potential and appeal of entrepreneurial activity.
  2. Deepening knowledge: Students wishing to explore the topic of entrepreneurship in greater depth have access to a range of optional modules and skills-building programmes.
  3. Taking entrepreneurial action: We provide targeted and individual support to students who undertake an entrepreneurial initiative.

What we offer staff

The Business School is supported by a team of dedicated staff with a wide range of competences. They possess great entrepreneurial potential!

We aim to nurture this potential and thereby contribute to strengthening the entrepreneurial culture within our department. Entrepreneurial initiatives or projects undertaken by staff, whether within or outside BFH, are welcome, and we wish to actively support them.
