Content + structure

Portrait

Specialised and detailed. Our CAS Management in Health Organisations provides you with fundamental knowledge of the current conditions in the healthcare sector and the resulting demands on corporate management. You will learn how current trends are impacting various strategic fields of action in healthcare management.

Course objectives

You can develop strategic concepts for health organisations and actively support them during the implementation phase. From a system perspective, you will reflect on current developments in the health care system and evaluate their impact on the various institutions. You will be familiar with instruments and methods that will support you in your management activities. 

Our CAS Management in Healthcare enhances your professional and methodological expertise. In doing so, it makes you a better day-to-day manager of healthcare organisations.

The content of the course takes into account current developments in healthcare: 

  • strategic management  
  • Human resources with focus on strategy
  • strategic change
  • Process management
  • Information management  
  • Innovation and technology management

We also arrange field trips, run a strategic management simulation and hold two days of collegial case consultation as part of our varied programme.

A modern, multi-faceted learning methods provide you with sound theoretical knowledge and enable an you to put what you have learnt into practice.

You will write a written final thesis followed by a presentation of your results.

Qualification + Title

Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) of the Bern University of Applied Sciences in «Management in Health Organisations» (12 ECTS credits)

Projects + Thesis

You will write a written thesis with subsequent presentation.

Lecturers

Our lecturers are proven experts with extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in their subject areas. They have at least a university degree plus many years of experience in higher education. 

Requirements + admission

The CAS Management in Healthcare Organisations is aimed at you as an active or prospective healthcare leader with a background in medicine, nursing, therapy, management or administration. You have acquired essential basics in business administration and management, for example in our CAS Business Administration for Health Professionals. In addition, you would like to address specific questions relating to the strategic development and management of organisations in the healthcare sector.

University degree

You will be admitted to the programme with a degree from a university, university of applied sciences, university of teacher education, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or an equivalent foreign university and at least two years of professional experience.

Higher vocational training

If you have a qualification from a higher vocational education institution (Diploma Höhere Fachschule HF, Federal Diploma, Federal Certificate of Proficiency) and several years of professional experience, you will also be admitted to the programme. However, you will be required to attend our Introduction to Academic Study before starting the CAS. Completion of this module is a prerequisite for admission to the CAS.

Exceptions

In exceptional circumstances applicants may still  be admitted. The head of the degree programme will make a decision based upon your application and extenuating circumstances. Please contact us. If you are admitted, you will in any case attend the course «Introduction to Academic Writing» (in German) before the first CAS.

The attendance courses are held in German. Written teaching materials in English are sometimes used.

Knowledge & Skills

Basic knowledge in the fields of business administration and management is required.

For all students of our CAS programmes we offer a half-day course Effective Learning. Attendance is recommended and is free of charge for CAS students. At this event, you will learn about the practice-oriented learning style used at universities of applied science.

Organisation + Registration

The duration of the programme is 21 study days. The days of study are Tuesday and Wednesday from 08.30 - 16.30. Maximum of 24 participants.

Organisational aspects of the CAS

Classes take place on Tuesday and Wednesday from 08.30 - 16.30.

The registration deadline for the programme is 6 weeks before the start. If places are available, later registration is possible.

CHF 8,500

All compulsory literature, course materials and examination fees are included in the price.

The continuing education regulations of the Bern University of Applied Sciences and the implementation regulations for the continuing education regulations apply. The right to make changes is reserved. In case of doubt, the wording of the legal provisions and regulations shall prevail.
