Content + Structure

Innovative and interdisciplinary. This extra-occupational continuing education programme in management combines two CAS and one DAS diploma thesis*: 

* You write the DAS diploma thesis on a topic of the two CAS. 

** With at least five years of leadership experience, a current management position, and at least ten days of training or further training in leadership, you will attend the CAS Advanced Leadership. 

The DAS is a self-contained diploma programme at a university level. It can also serve as an intermediate stage to the EMBA in Economics and Management in Health Care and the EMBA in Leadership and Management. 

Training objective

Benefit from basic business management knowledge or deepen existing specialist and methodological knowledge from business studies concerning the health care sector. Develop your social and leadership skills, analyse your leadership behavior, and reflect on contemporary issues in class. In the concluding DAS diploma thesis, you will use scientific methods to solve a complex problem from your everyday professional life. 

At Bern University of Applied Sciences Economics, each DAS consists of two CAS and a DAS thesis. You decide which CAS you want to start with. Your DAS thesis, involves an individually chosen topic from one of your two CAS. You will also write a media article on the topic of the DAS thesis which you will write during the second CAS or after you have attended both CAS. The time for writing the thesis is eight weeks. You register for the DAS thesis via the DAS study organisation.

The examination forms in the CAS are modern and suitable for adults. Traditional written knowledge examinations are usually not used. 

The DAS Diploma Thesis assessment module consists of a diploma thesis and an accompanying media report.

Requirements + Admission

Do you work in the healthcare sector? If yes, this course is tailor-made for you.

University degree

You will be admitted to the programme with a degree from a university, university of applied sciences, university of teacher education, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or an equivalent foreign university and at least two years of professional experience.

Higher vocational training

If you have a qualification from a higher vocational education institution (Diploma Höhere Fachschule HF, Federal Diploma, Federal Certificate of Proficiency) and several years of professional experience, you will also be admitted to the programme. However, you will be required to attend our Introduction to Academic Study before starting the CAS. Completion of this module is a prerequisite for admission to the CAS.

Exceptions

In exceptional circumstances applicants may still  be admitted. The head of the degree programme will make a decision based upon your application and extenuating circumstances. Please contact us. If you are admitted, you will in any case attend the course «Introduction to Academic Writing» (in German) before the first CAS.

Language skills

The language of instruction is German. Required literature is in German. In some CAS a few texts may be in English.

For all students of our CAS programmes we offer a half-day course Effective Learning. Attendance is recommended and is free of charge for CAS students. At this event, you will learn about the practice-oriented learning style used at universities of applied science.

Organisation + Registration

The duration of the DAS programme varies between 1.5 and 5 years. Depending on the choice of the individual CAS, different teaching models are possible.

Admission to the programme is possible according to the starting dates of the individual CAS programmes. The registration deadline for the CAS programmes is 6 weeks before the start of the respective CAS.

CHF 18,300

The tuition fee is made up of the cost of the two CAS (CHF 8,500 each) and the cost of the module DAS Diploma Thesis (CHF 1,300). Costs for the required literature, course materials, assessments are included in the tuition fee. 

The continuing education regulations of the Bern University of Applied Sciences and the implementation regulations for the continuing education regulations apply. The right to make changes is reserved. In case of doubt, the wording of the legal provisions and regulations shall prevail.
