LGBTIAQ+@Campus

With this project, BFH, PHBern and FHNW want to promote inclusion and belonging of LGBTIAQ+ students. To this end, actors are strengthened in their task of making the university an inclusive and discrimination-free place.

Factsheet

Situation

Actors in HR and in departments for equal opportunities and diversity at universities are increasingly sensitised and develop measures for the inclusion of LGBTIAQ+ employees. The abbreviation LGBTIAQ+ stands for persons whose sexual orientation, gender identity or characteristics do not correspond to those of the majority. In the decentralised structure of higher education institutions, however, it often remains unclear which specific needs LGBTIAQ+ students have and where the responsibility for the inclusion of LGBTIAQ+ students lies. The term "actors" is used here to describe all persons who currently or potentially have roles and responsibilities in the context of the inclusion of LGBTIAQ+ students.

Course of action

The project follows an inclusive and participatory approach through the inclusion of LGBTIQ+ students and stakeholders in all three project phases. In the first phase, the current situation in selected universities is surveyed by identifying and analysing relevant documents and information. Furthermore, interviews with stakeholders will provide information on the current situation and problems. In the second phase, needs for action are identified and defined in a participatory manner with students and other knowledge carriers, and recommendations for action are developed. In the third phase, personas and materials will be discussed and validated in several workshops together with stakeholders and LGBTIQ+ students, and the implementation and transfer within the participating universities will be initiated and ensured.

Result

As a project output, personas will be developed as theoretical figures against which actors can test their offers, policies and action routines, and information material and flyers as well as materials for conducting workshops will be developed. The results and materials will be presented in the forum of the swissuniversities P7 programme "Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in University Development" and made available to interested universities.
