Situation
In the Federal Chancellery, the Cloud Enabling Office Automation (CEBA) project is examining the switch of the office automation services on the basis of Microsoft 365. Since the "on premises" offerings from Microsoft are not being further developed, but there are administrative units or business cases the basis of open source software to the Microsoft service offerings should be examined.
Course of action
An exit from dependence on Microsoft in the area of office automation is evaluated in three independent steps: Step 1: Evaluation of back-end services such as file storage (Sharepoint), email (Exchange) and real-time communication (Skype for Business, MS Teams) Step 2: Evaluation of front-end services on the client such as web browser (Edge), office software (Office), visualization programs (Visio), collaboration software (Teams). Step 3: Replacement of the Windows client operating system, e.g. with Linux and the necessary management tools. Accompanying the evaluation, an open source laboratory is set up in which the evaluated solutions can be prototypically implemented and tested.
