Digital construction

From apprenticeships and continuing education all the way through to research and development: gain the skills you need for your digital future or project at BFH.

We live digital construction.

Everyone is talking about digital construction – we’re living it. Digital literacy skills are an integral component of the curriculum in our apprenticeships and continuing education. We use our digital expertise for the benefit of everyone in research and development.

Apprenticeship

During the apprenticeship, rather than teaching digital methods through elective subjects or specialisations, we make them an integral component of the entire course.

In the bachelor’s degrees (architecture, civil engineering, wood technology), students learn to use digital planning tools and their interfaces, as well as how to apply them in projects that sometimes involve interdisciplinary collaboration. All courses of study use the same digital model wherever possible. Integrated planning, coordination and content-related communication are important soft skills that are learned along the way.

In the master’s degree, foundational principles are looked at in greater depth and applied in more complex contexts in collaboration with research.

In the Advanced Federal Diploma at the Higher Technical School of Wood Biel, students can take the Basic Module in collaboration with the CRB, a centre of excellence for standards in the construction and real-estate sectors, to obtain the “buildingSMART Individual Qualification”.

Continuing education

Digitisation is profoundly changing the planning, construction and real estate industries and impacting the remits of architects, civil engineers, planners and wood construction companies. Keep up with the latest developments and learn to make the best use of these new possibilities on our new and proven continuing education programmes.

Our continuing education programmes teach the methodological skills required to understand and manage planning and production processes entirely digitally using BIM.

In addition to digital construction, digital tools and new business models are also part of our wide range of continuing education programmes.

Research and development

In research and development, we work on numerous projects with the aim of achieving seamless work processes in planning and production. Digital transformation is an issue at all our institutes, whose specialisations include materials (Institute for Materials and Wood Technology IWH) construction (Institute for Timber Construction, Structures and Architecture IHTA) and infrastructure (Institute for Urban Development and Infrastructure ISI). Digital transformation is a key focus of the fourth institute (Institute for Digital Economy in the Construction and Wood Industries IdBH).
