Ute Seeling becomes director of the HAFL

27.01.2020 The University Board of the Bern University of Applied Sciences has chosen Ute Seeling to be the new director of the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences HAFL. She has been the director of the German Board of Trustees for Forest Work and Forest Technology (KWF) since 2007.

Prof. Dr. Ute Seeling studied forestry at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg / Breisgau and at the ETH Zurich. In 1992, she did her doctorate at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen and qualified again in Freiburg in 2001.

Ute Seeling has many years of professional and managerial experience in the areas of science and education. Since 2007, she has headed the KWF, a competence centre for forest work, forestry technology and logistic in Gross-Umstadt near Frankfurt. This is a nationwide unique facility for applied research in the field of occupational safety, environmental protection and process engineering. In addition, she works as an adjunct professor in Forest Management at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg.

Herbert Binggeli, President of the Bern University of Applied Sciences, explains the new appointment: “Ute Seeling impresses with excellent specialist and management skills. She is very familiar with interdisciplinary questions related to education, science, business and politics. As a committed member of the advisory board Forest Science division of the HAFL, she knows our university and its surroundings.” 

Ute Seeling explains: “As a member of the advisory board, I have been accompanying the HAFL Forest Science division for several years. I am happy to contribute my knowledge and experience to the development of the entire university.”

She will assume her new function on the 1st of September 2020. At that point Prof. Dr. Magdalena Schindler Stokar, director of the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences will retire.
