Content + structure

Portrait

Analytical and well founded. In CAS Controlling & Consulting you will expand your consulting skills. You correctly assess the roles of the people involved and help shape those roles. Did you know that controlling takes place at the interface between management and controlling specialists? In this training programme, controllers learn to expand their field of work; they are not only specialists in comprehensive financial transparency but also competent consultants who influence strategic and operational decisions.

Course objectives

The first module of this advanced course in controlling is Planning and Reporting. You will evaluate and compare various planning and controlling tools. A basic knowledge of cost accounting is helpful for this.

In the second module, Functional Controlling, you highlight specific key figures of individual operational functions, designing reports and key figure systems to suit each situation.

In the third module, Consulting, you develop individually as a consultant.

  • Introduction and quality assurance:
    On the introduction day, you will develop a common understanding of the applicable rules with the CAS study management and define the practical application. You will evaluate the lessons by means of online surveys and in direct exchange with your Director of Studies. We will gladly take time for you.
  • Teaching:
    In class, you will deal in depth with the various topics and the most important questions. Take an active part in input lectures, individual and group work, presentations and plenary discussions. 
  • Transfer-oriented post-processing:
    You will carry out a thorough post-processing of the lessons. In doing so, you always focus on the transfer of practical experience. Your resulting transfer reports must meet the quality standards of Bern University of Applied Sciences.

MS Teams is available as a complementary tool, allowing access to documents, messages and information as well as a chat function within the class.

Regular attendance in class and passing the listed exams are prerequisites for the successful completion of the CAS:

  • Transfer report. A transfer report is an in-depth, structured examination of your own practice, either individually or in relation to the company/institution in which you work. This is a written report.
  • Written examination on the topics mentioned above.

Lecturers

Our lecturers are proven experts with extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in their subject areas. They have at least a university degree plus many years of experience in higher education. 

Requirements + admission

For this part-time training programme you need sound prior knowledge in the field of accounting and controlling. You are either self-employed or are considering self-employment as a consultant or you act as a controller within the company and want to develop professionally. The CAS is also aimed at experts from the healthcare industry, for whom we offer a special course in medical controlling.

Conditions of admission

University degree

To be admitted to the programme you must already have a degree from either a university or university of applied sciences, a university of teacher education, a Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, or an equivalent foreign university, plus at least two years of professional experience.

Professional education and training (PET) diploma

If you have diploma from a professional education and training institution (PET college diploma, Federal PET diploma, or advanced Federal PET diploma) you will also need several years of work experience for admission to the study programme. In any case, you will have to attend an Introduction to Academic Study course before your first CAS. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for admission to the CAS programme.

The Director of Studies decides on admission based on a portfolio analysis and an assessment of your current situation. Please contact us.

Professional requirements and language skills

Several years of professional experience are required for the programme. Knowledge in controlling is helpful. German and English knowledge is required for technical terms and short texts.

For all students of our CAS programmes we offer a half-day course Effective Learning. Attendance is recommended and is free of charge for CAS students. At this event, you will learn about the practice-oriented learning style used at universities of applied science.

Organisation + Registration

The programme lasts 21 study days. Classes are held every two weeks on Friday and Saturday. Maximum 24 participants.

Organisational aspects of the CAS

Friday and Saturday, every two weeks

The timetable is published six months before the start of the programme.

The registration deadline for the programme is three weeks before it begins. If places are available, later registration is possible.

CHF 8,500

All compulsory literature, course materials and assessments are included in the price. An additional flat rate of CHF 300 (on departure) is charged for the Six Sigma seminar, as the event is held in a seminar hotel (including overnight stay and full board).
