Continuing Education «with the head, heart and hand»

We are committed to the principles of modern adult education in Continuing Education at Bern University of Applied Sciences, Business School. Our mission with «head, heart and hand» is an important principle in the design of our study programmes. We focus on hybrid learning, which takes into account the diverse backgrounds of our continuing education students with their life and professional experience: face-to-face learning and self-study phases are combined in a meaningful way and analogue learning environments are enhanced with digital tools.

Learning with the head, heart and hand – its the connection that makes the differences. For us, the heart connects rational understanding and reflection (head) with goal-oriented application (hand). The ‘heart’ as a connecting component is an essential part of our educational approach.

Find out more in our brochure Continuing Education at the Business School.

Our courses stimulate the ‘brain’. They are designed to encourage reflective, critical thinking. Models, theories and knowledge are questioned: What do I need to solve my problem? How do I proceed? Are the models and my knowledge suitable for solving my problem? Is what I am doing right? Questioning, understanding and scrutinising illustrate the ‘head’ component. The focus is on objectivity, reflection and analysis.

In addition to the ‘head’, the ‘heart’ – emotions and experiences – is also important. Our courses should also be fun and memorable, because positive emotions support the learning process. The ‘heart’ is the binding component between rational understanding and reflection, in the sense of the “head”, and the goal-oriented application of the ‘hand’.

Our continuing education programmes in the field of ‘hands-on’ skills teach application-oriented, practical and theoretical tools, models and processes. We focus on hybrid learning, which takes into account the diverse backgrounds of our continuing education students with their life and professional experience: contact study and self-study phases are combined in a meaningful way, and analogue learning environments are enhanced with digital tools. You can apply your newly acquired knowledge directly to solving specific challenges in your everyday professional life.
