International research

Our international research combines practice-oriented expertise with global exchange.

Through collaboration at the European and global levels, our partners gain valuable insights into different markets, technologies and social challenges. These perspectives promote innovative, locally and globally relevant solutions and strengthen the innovative power and competitiveness of our partners.

Do you have an international research concern you would like to discuss?

PIONEER: European University Alliance

As a member of the European University Alliance PIONEER, we cooperate with leading European universities. The thematic focus is on current challenges facing urban areas in terms of sustainability.

The PIONEER Alliance focuses on the areas of mobility, energy and urban planning, with each university also working together with local authorities, SMEs and civil society. By committing to sustainable, safe and resilient cities, we contribute to the development of future-proof urban solutions.

Support for researchers

The PIONEER Alliance creates structures for mutual networking between researchers from the ten participating alliance universities. It supports them in applying for third-party funding in Europe and contributes to the development of international research expertise, particularly among young researchers.

Do you have a general question about PIONEER’s research collaboration with BFH? Or are you looking for contacts at BFH in a particular area of research? We will be happy to advise you.

Priority countries

As part of its international strategy, BFH has defined priority countries.

Priority country Canada

Canada is a priority country of the Swiss National Foundation, and since April 2024 of BFH. Thanks to good framework conditions, including various funding schemes for research and innovation, we can count on attractive conditions for international cooperation.

Priority country India

We have defined India as a priority country and are strengthening our cooperation with Indian partners. Attractive funding opportunities, e.g. from the Indo-Swiss Joint Research Programme, support us in this. Cooperation with the subcontinent offers students and researchers new opportunities for practical experience and for global knowledge and technology transfer.

Do you have a question or a request? The Global Engagement Office offers support to researchers and lecturers regarding the country focus areas.

Euraxess Service Center at BFH

The Euraxess Service Center is part of the Euraxess network for mobile researchers, which is represented in around 40 European countries.

The BFH Welcome Center is the designated Euraxess Service Center at Bern University of Applied Sciences. The service offers information and advice to newly arrived employees from abroad and answers questions about life in Switzerland, in Bern and at BFH.
